Bermuda Hospitals Board (BHB) delivers emergency, acute, chronic and long term care services for patients needing physical, psychiatric, substance abuse or intellectual disability care. We are the only provider of 24/7 health care services in Bermuda. Our services are delivered from the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital (KEMH), Long Term Care Units (LTC ), Mid-Atlantic Wellness Institute (MWI) and Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre (LFUCC), as well as in various group home and community settings.

 

Our mission is to provide the safest, highest quality, compassionate care, every day and our mandate is set out in the Bermuda Hospital Board Act 1970 and its regulations. Given our isolated geographic location, BHB offers a range of services border than is normally expected of hospitals servicing a similar population base in a larger country. Highly specialist services that can’t be provided safely on the island are referred overseas.

What happens if a patient requires specialized care not available in Bermuda?

Due to Bermuda's geographic isolation, specialized care that cannot be safely delivered on-island (such as complex organ transplants, advanced pediatric cardiac surgery, or specialized burn treatment) is coordinated through overseas medical transfers to partner hospitals in the US, Canada, or the UK.
